Professor Mercy Anyiwe

Mercy Ada Anyiwe Ph.D, MNES, FIL, FCAI

Mercy Ada Anyiwe, B.Sc. M.Sc. Ph.D (Economics) is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics and Statistics, University of Benin, Benin-City, Edo State Nigeria. She is also a Visiting Professor of Economics to Igbinedion University, Okada and once served as the Dean of the College of Social and Management Sciences at Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State.

Prof. Mercy Ada Anyiwe joined the University of Benin in 1993; before then, she had lectured at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma between 1983 and 1993. She has had vast experience in the area of Human Resource Development and has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students for many years in her special areas which are Econometrics, Statistics, Health Economics and Economic Development. She is well published in learned journals in Nigeria and abroad; and has contributed to knowledge immensely.

Prof Mercy Ada Anyiwe is an astute Economist-Statistician/Development Consultant committed to economic development and empowerment of her community, country and the entire world. In this regard she has served as a resource person to many organizations both local and foreign such as: The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP; African Economic and Research Consortium (AERC) Nairobi, Kenya; Women Commissions in Nigeria, Royal Realm Consult, and Television Stations.

She was the initiator and hostess of the television program Royal Watch (which had a focus on wealth creation and women/youth empowerment) on Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Benin-City, from which many benefitted.

She is passionate and an expert in organizing economic empowerment and poverty alleviation workshops particularly for women and youths. She is also an expert and a consultant on the formation/operation of successful multi-purpose cooperative societies.

Currently, her efforts in community service are being expanded through her Non-Governmental Organization: Centre for Human Development and Educational Research, (CEHDEER). She has helped, encouraged and sponsored many women and girls to acquire education irrespective of age. Her belief is that education is the right of every child, male or female alike.
